Dominican Gothic
I suppose we might call this our Dominican Gothic. Sundays of late have been days for planting and exploration. Ben on the left is a friend and associate who has been germinating trees for us. Pablo who owns his own 300 acre farm is taking the picture. Cassimiro the caretaker is holding a Nispero tree Germinated by Steve Bowcutt another permaculture enthusiast here in Cabarete. The red bucket Ben is holding had 40 Papaya trees in it 40 minutes earlier. Sunday we discovered Jagua which can make a nice juice, wild oregano, wild basil, and anther hardshelled fruit that when mixed with milk boiled and strained is very good for asthma Iām told. Will find the name.
In the afternoon we all met with Carlos to discuss strategy. It was decided Cassimiro will start clearing a section of land near the micro house construction to plant 5000 Guandules (pigeon peas) These plants are great nitrogen fixers and ground cover. They prevent soil loss and provide an excellent source of food.
